Crowns and Bridges

What Are Dental Crowns?

If you would like to restore your smile and replace or protect damaged or missing teeth, dental crowns and bridges may be suitable treatment options. At Ararat Family Dental, we can design crowns and bridges to look natural, feel comfortable and support everyday function.

Our aim is to closely match the size, shape, colour and appearance of your existing teeth while helping restore strength, structure and bite comfort. Whether you need to repair a cracked tooth, protect a weakened tooth or restore a tooth following root canal treatment, we will plan your crown or bridge carefully around your individual needs.

A dental crown is designed to restore the appearance, strength and function of a damaged tooth. Crowns are commonly used for teeth that are chipped, cracked, broken, weakened, heavily filled or affected by decay.

The crown works like a protective cap that fits over the prepared tooth, covering the visible surface and helping reinforce the remaining tooth structure. Crowns are often made from ceramic or porcelain materials so they can be shaped and shaded to blend naturally with the surrounding teeth.

Treatment usually takes two or more appointments. The tooth is first examined, prepared and shaped, and impressions or digital scans are taken so the crown can be custom-made. For more complex cases or multiple crowns, additional appointments may be required.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges may be used to replace one or more missing teeth. A bridge is custom-made to fill the gap left by missing teeth and is designed to blend with your natural smile.

A bridge usually involves one or more artificial teeth secured in place by crowns attached to the neighbouring teeth. In addition to improving the appearance of your smile, a bridge can also help distribute bite pressure more evenly and make chewing more comfortable.

Consultation Process

During your first visit, we will assess your teeth, discuss your concerns and recommend a suitable treatment plan. We will explain the process clearly, including what is involved, what alternatives may be available and what results you can reasonably expect.

If a crown or bridge is considered the most appropriate option, we will take accurate records of your teeth and send them to a dental laboratory for the restoration to be made. Once your crown or bridge is ready, we will fit it carefully, check your bite and provide instructions on how to care for it.

We may also arrange a follow-up appointment to review your comfort, bite and overall result.
